JPO Members Make Presentations on Building Global IP Partnerships at Online Seminar Hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry

An online seminar hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), titled the 8th International Conference on IPR, was held on November 18 and 19, 2022. The seminar’s theme was that of Building Global IP Partnerships, and it also served as an event commemorating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations being established between Japan and India. Several members attended from the IP field in Japan, a partner country in the seminar, including several from the Japan Patent Office (JPO).

In his opening remarks, Mr. KATSURA, JPO Deputy Commissioner, referred to the past cooperation between Japan and India in various IP fields, including Japan-India PPH and IP training. This meeting focuses on new issues such as green and AI-related technologies, which have recently attracted great interest in both countries. Mr. KATSURA expressed his hope that the meeting will help build a global IP partnership between the two countries, while providing an opportunity to lead to business success for both Japanese and Indian companies. In addition, JPO representatives at the site from various fields made presentations on the following: (1) the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) program that facilitates the smooth acquisition of patent rights overseas, (2) JPO's initiatives on how to make use of intellectual property and on how IP financing works, (3) the Patent Examination Case Examples and the Manga Patent Examination Guidelines for AI technologies, and (4) the Guide to Licensing Negotiations involving Standard Essential Patents.

Going forward, the JPO is committed to improving the IP framework in India by further advancing cooperative activities with India in the IP field.
