JPO Conducted Design-Training Program for MyIPO Examiners on International Registration of Designs and on Graphic Images

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) conducted a two-day, online, design-training program for members of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on November 29-30, 2022. Around 10 design examiners attended from the MyIPO.

The training program was led by a JPO expert in charge of international cooperation in the design field, as well as by a JPO design examiner who is highly experienced in design examination.

During the program, the trainers shared their respective knowledge and experiences in the field of design. One trainer talked about Japan’s experience in acceding to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement concerning the International Registration of Designs. The other trainer shared his knowledge on the JPO’s examination guidelines, operating procedures, and design classification in relation to graphic images. A lively question-and-answer session was held. The JPO received positive feedback from the trainees, including comments stating, “the training can assist Malaysia in preparing to accede to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement” and “the training gave me more understanding about graphic images.”

The JPO will continue to offer support and cooperation in this area by conducting training programs for emerging countries such as Malaysia, in order to help improve and strengthen their examination practices and operating procedures.
