The Japan Patent Office (JPO) held a follow-up seminar for JPO/IPR training graduates in Delhi, India on December 17, 2022. Titled "Considering Attractive Design", the seminar was co-hosted by the Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM) of India.
Approximately 100 participants, including Indian government officials and IP professionals, attended the seminar’s morning session. The morning program included several lectures, including one given by the JPO on the basics of the design system and recent Japanese design policy; another by an Indian attorney on the current status and outlook of the Indian design system; and others on product design, which were delivered by designers from both Japanese and Indian companies. In addition, a dialogue was held wherein designers and participants from both India and Japan actively exchanged opinions, thereby allowing participants to deepen their understanding of the product design and design systems in both countries.
During the afternoon session, a hands-on design creation classroom was held where about 90 junior and senior high school students attending a local school in India used familiar materials to come up with their own attractive designs, thereby learning the importance of design through hands-on activities.
Through these initiatives, the JPO will continue to support the development and improvement of IP environments in emerging countries such as India in a continuous and independent manner. This will also create an environment wherein the intellectual property can be secured quickly and smoothly, and be properly protected, even in overseas countries.
