During the meeting held on February 27, 2023, between Minister Nishimura of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and Director General Tang from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Minister Nishimura proposed that Japan work with WIPO at the EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI, JAPAN. He proposed presenting cases generated through the I-OPEN Project, as this would be an opportunity to further promote the importance of solving social issues through the use of intellectual property. Both WIPO and Japan agreed to the idea of working together on this project.

On the same day, Director General Tang met also with JPO Commissioner Hamano at the JPO. During the meeting, the JPO introduced its initiatives to utilize new technologies such as AI for examination and its initiatives to promote the use of GXTI, and exchanged views on cooperation at the EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI, JAPAN and international cooperation activities through the Funds-in-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global.
