On February 24, 2023, The Japan Patent Office (JPO) conducted an online design training program for members of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).
The training program was led by a JPO expert in charge of examination standards in the design field. Around 35 design examiners attended from IPOPHL.
During the program, the trainer shared her knowledge and experiences in the field of design, including the JPO’s examination guidelines, operating procedures, and design classification in relation to graphic images and designs for buildings and interiors. This was then followed by a lively question and answer session. The JPO received positive feedback from the trainees, including the following comments: “The training gave me a lot of knowledge, especially of design examinations,” and “The training was helpful in examining industrial design applications relating to graphic images, and designs for buildings and interiors.”
The JPO will continue to offer support and cooperation in this area by conducting training programs for emerging countries such as the Philippines, thereby helping to improve and strengthen their examination practices and operating procedures.
