JPO-EUIPO Trademark Expert Meeting Held

The JPO held a two-day virtual trademark expert meeting with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on 7 and 8 March, 2023.

During the meeting, the two offices shared information on the latest measures in the trademark field, as well as initiatives related to new technologies including AI. In addition, examination practices were introduced for goods and services in the virtual space of the EUIPO. We also discussed cooperative matters between the two offices, and future policies for collaborative projects within the framework of the Five Trademark Offices (TM5), consisting of trademark offices in Japan, the United States, Europe, China and Korea. Herein, we were able to enhance mutual understanding concerning the direction of future activities.

The JPO will continue to cooperate with EUIPO to make the trademark system more accessible and easier to navigate for users of both offices.
