The members of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA)* visited the Japan Patent Office (JPO) on April 15th and held a meeting with JPO Commissioner Koichi HAMANO. During this meeting, the JPO introduced its latest developments including examinations for AI-related inventions, the Trademark Act revision that came into effect on April 1st, and other recent topics of interest. In addition, AIPLA gave an introduction to the latest AI-related IP topics in the United States.
Working-level meetings were also held prior to this meeting in order to discuss issues and initiatives with regard to the patent and trademark systems in both the U.S. and Japan.
