In recent years, people from over 40 countries have attended IP Week, which serves as a discussion forum for the global IP community.
Commissioner ONO spoke of Japanese stakeholders’ thoughts on the influence of AI in IP system and introduced the JPO’s initiatives on AI and other cutting-edge technologies and explained a few of the JPO’s international collaborations on such matters. He urged the audience to think about the relationship between AI and IP systems, emphasizing that IP Offices should not just trail tech disruptions but should facilitate innovation as well.
On the following day, August 28, the JPO and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) co-hosted the “Japan Session(External Link)” side event. Opening remarks were given by Commissioner ONO and IPOS Chief Executive Lee. The main focus was a panel discussion entitled “SDGs x IP” in which representatives from a Japanese company, a University, an IP information service provider, the IPOS, and the JPO shared their views on the role of IP in achieving SDGs and the status of their respective initiatives.
