FIT Japan IP Global Achievements Highlighted at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Session

An event featuring the achievements of the Funds-in-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global (FIT Japan IP Global), a fund of voluntary contributions from Japan to the WIPO, was held in conjunction with the 33rd Session of the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP) held at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland from December 9 to 13, 2024, capturing a great deal of attention.

The FIT Japan IP Global is a fund of voluntary contributions from Japan to WIPO. Its purpose is to support developing countries and least developed countries (LDC) around the world to deepen knowledge of intellectual property systems, enhance intellectual property-related capabilities, and promote innovation and technology transfer. The fund is making significant contributions to the social and economic development of these countries.

At the event, speakers from countries and regions that have received support from FIT Japan IP Global—and are actively working to further utilize and commercialize intellectual property—were invited to participate in panel discussions on success stories based on their experiences^*. In addition, an exhibition was held featuring the various unique products of each country that have resulted from commercialization, which prompted wide recognition regarding the effectiveness of the FIT Japan IP Global initiative.

The event attracted many participants from both developed and developing countries, and provided a valuable opportunity for these countries to work together. In this way, the FIT Japan IP Global plays a leading role as a bridge in the international community to work together to build a sustainable future.

The Japan Patent Office will continue to provide support through the FIT Japan IP Global so that numerous countries may develop businesses through the use of intellectual property.

* Panel discussions were held on a project to support female agri-business entrepreneurs in Africa, a project to support indigenous women and the WIPO GREEN project.
