The Japan Patent Office (JPO), in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), provided a training program on patent trial/appeal practice and quality management of patent examination for the patent examiners of the Indonesia Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) for a total of four days from January 20 to 23, 2025.
In the program, JPO’s instructors in charge of trial/appeal and quality management provided lectures, and a total of eight DGIP patent examiners and legal analyst of the Working Team for Patent Appeal Commission participated as trainees.
In addition to the lectures, the trainees deepened understanding on the trial/appeal system and quality management of patent examination by working on assigned tasks through group discussions. The trainees commented that “the Q&A sessions with the instructors helped to deepen our understanding on specific patent practice”.
The JPO, in cooperation with JICA, will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination and trial/appeal practices to examiners in Indonesia and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japanese companies is expected, thereby, supporting the development of patent examination and trial/appeal systems and strengthening of quality management of patent examination in those countries.
