JPO Exchanged Opinions with EUIPO

On February 12, 2025, the Trial and Appeal Department (TAD) of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) held a videoconference to exchange opinions with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) Boards of Appeal (BoA).

From the TAD of the JPO, Ms. TAMURA Kiyoko, Director-General, Mr. TAKANO Kazuyuki, Senior Director of the 35th Board of Trial and Appeal and other members participated, while from the EUIPO BoA, Mr. Sven STÜRMANN, President of the Boards of Appeal and other members participated.

During this meeting, both offices exchanged information regarding the overview and current status of their respective trial and appeal systems. Following that, the participants discussed issues based on trial and appeal decisions and court decisions in Japan and the EU concerning trademarks.

The JPO will continue to actively foster various exchange programs with other Offices in the field of trials and appeals.
