The Japan Patent Office (JPO) held a meeting on April 7, 2025 to exchange opinions with the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI*).
JPO Commissioner ONO delivered the opening remarks, which were followed by a lively exchange of opinions on various topics, beginning with an introduction of the Action Plan for the Utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology, and JPO-led initiatives in the area of AI-related inventions.
The JPO aims to improve and revitalize the intellectual property (IP) system by fostering an appropriate understanding of JPO initiatives, and by gathering requests and opinions from FICPI (which comprises IP attorneys from 80 countries and regions) regarding IP systems both in Japan and overseas.

* International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI: Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Intellectuelle): An association of more than 5,000 patent attorneys affiliated with organizations around the world. Representing the interests of global patent attorneys at law, they express their views on proposed new treaties, national laws, etc., and also disseminate international information through publications and newsletters.
