JPO Holds Heads Meeting with CIPC (South Africa) and EGIPA (Egypt)

On August 20, 2025, Mr. Rory Voller, Commissioner of the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) of South Africa, and Dr. Hesham Azmi, Chairman of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority (EGIPA), visited the Japan Patent Office (JPO) during their trip for the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) to hold a meeting with JPO Commissioner KASAI Yasuyuki.

The latest developments in both offices were introduced at this time, including a legal amendment in South Africa that is currently being considered to introduce substantive examinations of patent applications; and the reorganization last year in Egypt of multiple separate intellectual property offices into a new singular office. It was also confirmed during the meeting that the cooperative relationship between the JPO and both offices will be further strengthened.
