International Forums Were Held at the Theme Weeks Studio, EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan Venue

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) hosted the International Forums together with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and intellectual property offices in various countries.
The EXPO2025 JPO-WIPO AWARD ceremony was held during the International Forums in order to honor companies that leverage IP to design a better future in areas such as climate change and women’s empowerment. In addition, a launch event was held for the Expo special edition of the Green Technology Book published by WIPO. Panel discussions were also held on topics such as approaches taken toward climate change that utilize intellectual property, and promoting empowerment of a broad range of human resources, including women, in the field of intellectual property.

Summary of Outcome

(1) EXPO2025 JPO-WIPO AWARD Ceremony

The Japan Patent Office (JPO), in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and other entities, presented the EXPO2025 JPO-WIPO AWARD at the EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan to companies that embody the same approach to intellectual property usage that the JPO and WIPO are jointly pursuing. This approach involves generating innovation to address social issues, including the realization of the SDGs and design of better future societies.

Selection Committee Chair Hino and Director General Tang presented certificates and medals to two companies awarded in the climate change category, two companies awarded in the women’s empowerment category and one company awarded in the youth empowerment category. Each company additionally delivered an acceptance speech.

(2) WIPO GREEN Roundtable

A roundtable was held to discuss the successful showcasing of environmental technologies/technology transfers for solving social issues through WIPO GREEN, challenges and solutions related to matching, the roles of government and industry, and activities by IP offices.
