JPO Holds Workshop on Countermeasures Against Bad Faith Trademark Filings for Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand

February 24, 2026

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) held a workshop on February 5 on the topic of countermeasures against bad faith trademark filings for the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand. The workshop, which drew around 50 participants including trademark examiners and other officials, was part of the "Bad Faith Trademark Project*" led by the JPO within the framework of the Five Trademark Offices (TM5), which includes Japan, the United States, Europe, China and Korea.

The participants, which included representatives from each TM5 Office, exchanged general information on the Bad Faith Trademark Project, and on the efforts taken by each office against bad faith trademark filings. Each office shared their experiences in this regard by providing specific examples, which led to active discussions and a shared understanding regarding the importance of measures against bad faith trademark filings.

The JPO will also continue to share information on measures against bad faith trademark filings with IP offices in countries and regions beyond the TM5, and will also work to create an environment wherein trademark rights are properly protected.

  • * This project aims to exchange information on the system and operation of each TM5 Office with regard to bad faith trademark filings, and to provide such information to users.
