Mr. Tran Huu Linh, Director General of the Agency for Domestic Market Surveillance and Development (DMS) of Vietnam, visited the Japan Patent Office (JPO) on Thursday, March 5, for a meeting with Mr. KASAI Yasuyuki, Commissioner of the JPO. The DMS, which has the authority to seize counterfeit products in Vietnam, provided an overview of its latest initiatives during the meeting, Both sides confirmed the progress of cooperative projects which were conducted under the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) signed between the two offices in 2021. They also discussed future activities under the MOC, and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening mutual understanding and cooperative relations.

On the afternoon of same day, with Commissioner Kasai acting as a witness, a new MOU was signed among the Vietnam-based e-commerce platforms (Lazada, Shopee, Tiki, TikTok Shop), the DMS, and the International Intellectual Property Protection Forum （IIPPF）. Cooperation among the three parties is expected to be strengthened through this new MOU, contributing toward more robust measures against counterfeit goods on Vietnam’s various e-commerce sites.

The JPO will continue to strengthen cooperation with DMS and IIPPF, and will also work on developing an environment wherein the IP rights of Japanese brand owners are properly protected in Vietnam.
