Heads of Patent Offices in Japan, Europe, Korea, China, and the U.S. Discuss the Future Utilization of AI Technology
- Outcome of the 19th IP5 Heads of Office Meeting -

On June 12, 2026, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) hosted the 19th IP5 Heads of Office Meeting. The meeting brought together the five offices from Japan, Europe, Korea, China, and the United States.

During the meeting, progress was reviewed on the roadmap for new emerging technologies and artificial intelligence (the IP5 NET/AI Roadmap), originally formulated at the 2021 IP5 Heads of Office Meeting. Recognizing the growing importance of AI, the IP5 Offices agreed on new directions for future cooperation and decided to establish a dedicated working group to advance practical discussions and initiatives.

On June 11, the day prior to the IP5 Heads of Office Meeting, the Meeting of the IP5 Heads of Office with IP5 Industry was held. In this meeting, representatives from each Office and Industry exchanged views on the status and prospective utilization of AI.
