REGULATIONS UNDER THE MADRID AGREEMENT 9

Chapter 8 Certificates, Notifications and Publications

 Rule 29 Certificates

  • (1) The International Bureau shall send to the national Office of the country of origin, by registered mail, for transmittal to the owner, a certificate reproducing the indications recorded in the International Register at the time of registration.
  • (2) The International Bureau shall, by registered mail, send to the owner, or to the national Office of the country of the owner where renewal has been effected through the intermediary of that Office, a certificate reproducing the indications recorded in the International Register at the time of renewal.

 Rule 30 Notifications

  • (1) The International Bureau shall notify the national Offices of the countries concerned, by registered mail, of international registrations, and of provisional and final refusals of protection, final decisions following a refusal, invalidations, summaries under Rule 19, renewals, cancellations, corrections and any other changes recorded in the International Register.
  • (2) The International Bureau shall send the owner, by registered mail, a copy of notifications of provisional and final refusals of protection and final decisions following a refusal, and, by ordinary mail, a copy of notifications of invalidations recorded in the International Register as well as a copy of any recording of changes made in the International Register.
  • (3) The International Bureau shall notify the national Office or the owner, as the case may be, by registered mail, of the notifications and other communications referred to in Rules 11, 12 and 13 concerning irregular applications.

 Rule 31 Publications

  • (1) The International Bureau shall publish each month, in a periodical entitled Les Marques internationales, the registrations, renewals, changes, cancellations, corrections, final refusals of protection (without the grounds for refusal, however), final decisions following refusal and final invalidations recorded in the International Register, summaries under Rule 19, the serial numbers of international registrations for which the balance of fees due for the second 10-year period has been paid; the serial numbers of international registrations cancelled owing to failure to pay the said balance and the serial numbers of international registrations that have not been renewed shall only be published after the expiration of the period of grace referred to in Rules 10(3) and 25(3).
  • (2) Every year, the International Bureau shall publish tables indicating, in the alphabetical order of the names of their owners, international registrations which have been the subject of publication during the preceding year.
  • (3) The International Bureau shall also publish annual statistics on the international registration of marks.
  • (4) Each national Office shall have the right to receive from the International Bureau, for each unit corresponding to the contribution class chosen in accordance with the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, two copies free of charge and two copies at half price of either the paper or the microfiche edition of Les Marques internationales.
