Action Plan for Utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology (Rev.2025)

In FY2022, the JPO published the "Action Plan for Utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology (FY2022-2026 edition)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Action Plan") for the utilization of AI technology to improve efficiency and quality of the JPO administrative work. Considering the results of previous initiatives, the JPO revised the Action Plan (see Documents 1).

The revisions are as follows.

• “3.Prior Art Search(2)” is transitioned to agile development phase.
• Based on the results of our deliberations to date, we will temporarily suspend the PoC for “4. Patent Examination Management” in the FY2024 revision, and will instead create a new section, “9. Application of Generative AI to JPO Patent Examination” to consider the use of generative AI.
• PoCs will be conducted in FY2025 for “3. Prior Art Search (2)”, “6. Designated Goods and Services Search”, “8. Application of Generative AI to JPO Administrative Work” and “9. Application of Generative AI to JPO Patent Examination.”
