The International Classification of Goods and Services (Nice Classification) which is based on Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks is an internationally common classification among many jurisdictions.

The changes to the previous version (12th edition, version 2025) were adopted by the Committee of Experts of the Nice Union at its 35th session which was held from April 28 to May 2nd 2025, as a hybrid style both at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization, in Geneva, Switzerland and online. And the International Classification of Goods and Services, 13th edition, version 2026 will enter into force on January 1st, 2026.

Japan Patent Office releases the “International Classification of Goods and Services in Japanese translation with Similar Group Codes” corresponding to the International Classification of Goods and Services 13th edition, version 2026 as follows.

The International Classification of Goods and Services, 13th edition, version 2026 will be applied to the applications on or after January 1st, 2026.
