From May 8 to 11, 2017, the delegates of the Trial and Appeal Department of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), headed by Mr. Ryuichi Kubo, Director of the Board of Trial and Appeal of the JPO, visited the German Federal Patent Court (GFPC), having a working level meeting to exchange opinions with judges, etc. of the GFPC.
The GFPC, a special administrative court in Germany, plays a similar role as the Trial and Appeal Department of the JPO has in Japan and is responsible for Nullity Proceedings for German patents and appeal proceedings against decisions rendered by the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, etc. This is the first time the Trial and Appeal Department of the JPO and the GFPC have a working level meeting to exchange opinions.
The JPO will continue to be actively involved in exchanges of views with international community, making efforts for conducting productive proceedings and increasing an awareness of systems of the JPO based on the opinions obtained through international exchange of opinions.
