On December 2, 2016, Dr. David Ruschke, Chief Administrative Patent Judge of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) visited the Japan Patent Office (JPO). Dr. Ruschke was scheduled to speak the following day at the seminar hosted by the Research Center for the Legal System of Intellectual Property of Waseda University. He met with Mr. Akira Tanji, Executive Chief Administrative Judge of the JPO, having an opportunity to exchange opinions regarding topics surrounding patent trial and appeal practices and decisions in Japan and the United States. In conclusion, they agreed to continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the JPO and the USPTO.
