A total of 21 trainees from 14 countries and 1 organization completed the course. This course was mainly intended for managers involved in patent examination management at IP offices in various countries.
The purpose of this course is to enhance the required expertise for practicing patent examination management. During this course, the attendees and the JPO shared their experiences and discussed various issues with each other. In addition, lectures were given to deepen the attendees' understanding of overall patent-examination operations, such as examination speed-up, how to manage the quality of patent examination and general business-management practices, as well as how to develop human resources, specifically patent examiners.
Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:
"The lecture was very interesting because we could see how the applicants and the examiners communicate with each other and consequently how the quality of examinations conducted by the JPO is improved."
"It was very good that we could exchange opinions with all the participating countries regarding the flow of patent examination conducted by the IP offices of each country and hear about their efforts to encourage people to file more patent applications in their own countries."
