JPO Conducted JPO/IPR Training Course on Patent Examination Practices for South Africa

The JPO conducted the "JPO/IPR Training Course on Patent Examination Practices for South Africa" in person from August 1 to 7, 2024. A total of 10 trainees from South Africa completed the course. This course was mainly intended for patent examiners engaged in patent examinations in the CIPC (Companies and Intellectual Property Commission).

The purpose of this course is to enhance the required expertise for patent examiners. Through lectures and discussions, participants deepened their understanding of the patent system in general, including basic patent examination practice.

Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:

"During the course, we could ask many questions including some that applied to the South African situation. The lecturers earnestly helped us as much as possible. It was a very useful exchange.", "The information was very informative and practical. I learned a lot from the lectures. I will apply this experience to our prior art searches in South Africa."
