JPO/IPR Training Course on Patent Examination for Middle Eastern and African Countries

The JPO conducted the "JPO/IPR Training Course on Patent Examination for Middle Eastern and African Countries" from September 11 - 19, 2024. A total of 17 trainees from 12 countries and one organization completed the course. The course is designed for patent examiners engaged in patent examinations in Middle Eastern and African regions.

The purpose of this course was to enhance the expertise of patent examiners in order to encourage them to conduct prompt and accurate examinations in their respective countries. In addition to lectures given on patent examination guidelines and quality management, this course also included sessions conducted by JPO examiners that covered search exercises and case studies. Trainees’ understanding of patent examination practices deepened through these lectures, where they also exchanged information on patent examination practices in each their respective countries during the discussion time.

Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:
