The JPO conducted the "JPO/IPR Training Course for Practitioners Specializing in Patents" in hybrid format, meaning online and by inviting trainees, from September 18 to November 7, 2024. A total of 17 trainees from 10 countries completed the course, which was intended for IP lawyers, patent attorneys, and those engaged in patent practices in companies and universities.
The purpose of the course was to deepen the attendees’ understanding of patent practices, and to enhance their abilities as experts in IP rights. IP experts in Japan provided lectures on how to write patent specifications, as well as on licensing negotiations, dispute resolution, and utilization of patent information. To create an interactive approach, lectures were delivered in real time online as well as in person.
Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:
" As the lecture was interactive using good quality analytic data, I was able to gain the ability to think from a different viewpoint. This helped me to think about ways to contribute to the growth of IP by using such statistics." "As a patent agent, I review the patentability of my clients' innovations and it can be very difficult to determine and explain their inventive steps. This lecture helped me understand standards to consider in such difficult situations."
