JPO Conducted JPO/IPR Operational Patent Examination Training Program (OPET)

The JPO conducted the JPO/IPR Operational Patent Examination Training Program (OPET) from October 22 to December 18, 2024. The course was designed for patent examiners within IP offices who are responsible for the fields of " technical fields of chemistry / inorganic material" or "AI”. A total of 20 participants from 13 countries and 2 organizations completed the course.

This course was designed to foster knowledge on the part of examiners with leadership positions in specific technical fields. The course included lectures and exercises on patent examination practices, such as how to write specifications and assess patentability. In addition, participants deepened their understanding regarding the practice of preparing International Search Reports (ISRs).

Trainees' comments regarding the course included the following:

" It was a valuable time where information regarding the laws, novelty, inventiveness, and amendments of claims from various countries participating in this training was shared."

" I was able to learn about advancements in technology occurring worldwide, including information on other IP offices, their examination procedures, and the use of AI."
