The JPO conducted the "JPO/IPR Training Course on Anti-Counterfeiting Measures for Practitioners" from November 18-25, 2024. A total of 23 trainees from 18 countries completed the course, which was targeted toward officials from IP offices, Customs, as well as from other organizations primarily in charge of conducting anti-counterfeiting operations and cracking down on counterfeit goods.
In this course, trainees learned about anti-counterfeiting practices and cooperation with related organizations in IP enforcement, and also deepened their understanding of the initiatives and current status of IP enforcement in Japan through lectures by Tokyo Customs, as well as discussions among instructors and trainees.
Trainees' comments regarding the course included the following:
"I was able to understand the laws addressing intellectual property rights infringement in Japan, which was very educational. I believe this will undoubtedly help facilitate discussions on improving domestic laws and approaches to issues in my own country."
"In the lecture on practical anti-counterfeiting measures, I was impressed by the extraordinary efforts of the private sector in the fight against intellectual property rights infringement. It became clear that there is a need for collaboration between the private and public sectors in this battle."
