The JPO conducted the "JPO/IPR Training Course on Patent Examination in Specific Technical Fields" from January 29 to February 5, 2025. A total of 18 participants from 10 countries and one organization completed the course, which was designed for patent examiners who are responsible for telecommunications and biotechnology.
The course was designed to deepen understanding of patent examination practices and enhance the professional capabilities of patent examiners. The training included lectures on case studies and search exercises conducted by JPO examiners. During the discussions, there were very active exchanges among the trainees, who shared information about patent examination practices in their respective countries.
The trainees' comments regarding the course included the following:
"The practical approach deepened my understanding of the examination process and improved my analytical skills in determining the patentability of biotechnology inventions."
"All the lectures were excellent—active, interactive, and illustrative, which helped me understand the topics. I also appreciate the effort made to answer any questions to the best of their ability."
