The JPO conducted the JPO/IPR Training Course on Design Substantive Examination and Accession to the Hague Agreement from July 17 - 25, 2025. A total of 21 participants from 13 countries and one organization attended the course. The target participants were design examiners from the IP Offices of various countries, particularly those which have not yet joined the Hague Agreement.
The purposes of this course were to promote accession to the Hague Agreement, introduce the substantive design examination system, and improve the quality of examinations. During the course, JPO examiners shared their experiences of Japan’s accession to the Hague Agreement, and gave lectures on topics including examination practices, standards, and operations.
The trainees’ comments regarding the course included the following:
