The JPO conducted the "JPO/IPR Training Course on Patent Examination for Middle Eastern and African Countries" from September 10 - 18, 2025. A total of 18 trainees from 10 countries and two organizations completed the course, which was designed for patent examiners in Middle Eastern and African regions.
The purpose of this course was to enhance the patent examiners’ expertise in order to help facilitate prompt and accurate examinations in their respective countries. In addition to lectures given on patent examination guidelines and quality management, the course also included sessions conducted by JPO examiners that covered search exercises and case studies. Trainees’ understanding of patent examination practices deepened through these lectures, where they were also able to exchange information on patent examination practices in their respective countries during the discussion period.
