The JPO conducted the JPO/IPR Operational Patent Examination Training Program (OPET) from October 7 to December 5, 2025. A total of 20 participants from 11 countries completed the course, which was designed for patent examiners within IP offices who are responsible for the technical fields of chemistry/biotechnology, or the field of telecommunications.
The course was designed to foster knowledge on the part of examiners with leadership positions in specific technical fields. In addition to course lectures, and patent examination practice exercises on matters including how to write specifications and assess patentability, participants were also able to deepen their understanding regarding the practice of preparing International Search Reports (ISRs).
Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:
