JPO Conducts JPO/IPR Training Course on Patent Examination in Specific Technical Fields

The JPO conducted the "JPO/IPR Training Course on Patent Examination in Specific Technical Fields" from January 20 to 27, 2026. A total of 18 participants from 15 countries and one organization completed the course, which was designed for patent examiners who are responsible for organic chemistry and mechanical engineering.

The course was designed to deepen understanding of patent examination practices and enhance the professional capabilities of patent examiners. The training included lectures on case studies and search exercises conducted by JPO examiners. During the discussions, there were very active exchanges among the trainees, who shared information about patent examination practices in their respective countries.

Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:

"Through lectures, case studies, and practical exercises, I was able to deepen my understanding of examination standards, claim interpretation, and prior art analysis."

"I would like to utilize the knowledge, skills, and experience gained in order to contribute toward the improvement of examination practices in my country’s patent department."
