The JPO conducted the “JPO/IPR Training Course on Substantive Examination of Trademarks” from January 29 to February 6, 2026. A total of 21 participants from 18 countries and one organization completed the course, which was designed for IP officials engaged in trademark examination in their respective countries.
This course was designed to deepen understanding of examination guidelines and practice-related expertise, as well as to enhance the required professional skills for trademark examiners. Lectures on trademark legislation, examination guidelines, quality control, and experience/ knowledge of substantive examinations in Japan were presented, and participants were also able to deepen their understanding through case studies and discussions based on actual applications.
Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:
