FY2019 Follow-up Seminar in Brazil (Program)
The JPO held a seminar in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 28 and 29, 2019. The theme of the seminar on day 1 was “Intellectual Property in Latest Technical Trends - Artificial Intelligence and Pharmaceutical Industry -”, and for day 2 the theme was “Latest Technical Trends in Pharmaceutical Fields”. This was the first seminar held in the Latin-American region. There were approximately 140 attendees from the National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI) in total over the two days, including former participants of JPO training courses held in Japan.
The seminar began with opening remarks given by Mr. Furtado, INPI President, Mr. Otsuru, Consul-General of Consulate General of Japan in Rio de Janeiro, and Mr. Nemoto, Director of International Cooperation Division of the JPO. The JPO then followed with an introduction to the seminar by explaining the current status of the JPO and its cooperation for development between Japan and Brazil. The speakers both from Japan and Brazil introduced possible uses of AI in business operations at IP Offices, as well as trends in patent filings for inventions involving AI and Examinations on them. After that, Japanese lecturers from private companies gave presentation on the use of AI in drug discovery research, and the latest technical trends in pharmaceutical fields
On November 29th, the JPO also had a meeting with former participants of out training programs to hear their opinions and gather useful information that will help us in planning future training programs. The JPO look forward to the further success of our former trainees, as well as all IP-related professionals in Brazil.
