FY2019 Follow-up Seminar in Malaysia (Program)
The JPO held a seminar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on February 17. The theme of the seminar was “Development of IP Legislation”. There were approximately 100 attendees in total, including IP related persons from the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), law offices, private companies, and universities and research institutes, as well as former participants of JPO training courses held in Japan.
The seminar began with a keynote speech given by Mr. Razab, Assistant Director General of MyIPO, on the current IPR system in Malaysia. The JPO then followed with an introduction to the seminar by describing the current industrial property rights system in Japan. Japanese lecturers gave presentations on patent examination of the latest technologies such as AI and IoT, and how to utilize the IP system from the Japanese users’ perspectives. Lecturers from MyIPO explained important points of the patent, trademark and copyright acts and their utilization, and an IP expert from the IP association discussed the role of IP agents and the challenges they face. A question and answer session was held following each session, and there were active opinion exchanges between the lecturers and attendees.
On February 18th, the JPO had a meeting with former participants of our training programs to hear their opinions and gather useful information that will help us in planning future training programs. The JPO look forward to the further success of our former trainees, as well as all IP-related professionals in Malaysia.
