FY2023 Follow-up Seminar in Mexico (Program)
On October 18, 2023, the JPO and IMPI co-hosted a Follow-up Seminar in Mexico City.
Recent developments and examination practices in both countries related to the theme of non-traditional trademarks were introduced during the seminar, which was attended by approximately 65 officials from the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI).
The Mexican speakers explained the types of non-traditional trademarks protected in Mexico, such as sound and smell, and also introduced the challenges of non-traditional trademark examinations and their solutions.
The Japanese speakers introduced the non-traditional trademarks protected in Japan, along with the examination criteria for color and sound trademarks. Using examples of non-traditional trademarks registered in Japan, an explanation was also given with regard to acquiring distinctiveness of color and sound trademarks
Through these initiatives, the JPO will contribute toward continuous, self-sustaining development and improvement of the IP environment in Mexico.
