The JPO conducted the “JPO/IPR Training Course on General IP Office Management” online from October 3 to 19, 2022. A total of 14 trainees from 9 countries and 1 organization completed the course. The course is intended for the officials of IP Offices in various countries, especially those who are in charge of policy planning and overall business processes.
The purpose of this course is to learn about the overall operations that is carried out by IP Offices, from filing of application to extinction of IP rights, and to seek best practices and improvement measures for daily operations by sharing and comparing operational issues faced by each country. Many of the lectures were delivered in real time online, and lively discussions were held.
Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:
“Thanks to taking this course, I now clearly can understand the reasons why each practice is implemented for making smoother operational flows possible. I also learned about managing IP applications. In addition, I gained knowledge about the history of patents and trademarks.” “I plan to use the knowledge gained from this training course to encourage the IT department of our office to automate processes for formality examinations, when dealing with online filings.”
