JPO Conducted JPO/IPR Training Course for Practitioners Specializing in Trademarks

The JPO conducted the "JPO/IPR Training Course for Practitioners Specializing in Trademarks" in hybrid format, meaning online and by inviting trainees, from August 1 to August 30, 2023. A total of 17 trainees from 10 countries completed the course, which was targeted toward IP lawyers, patent attorneys, and other professionals engaged in trademark practices at companies and universities. The purpose of this course was to deepen the understanding of trademark practices and enhance ability as IP experts. The training course included lectures and discussions on the trademark system, an overview of the Madrid Protocol, trademark examination guidelines, and the utilization of trademark information.

Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:

“It was an excellent training course that provided an overview of all topics related to trademarks in Japan.” “Not only did I gain a deeper understanding of Japanese trademark practices, but I was also exposed to those of other countries through group presentations and discussions. The knowledge gained from this training will be useful when advising clients on trademark issues in their own countries, Madrid Protocol applications, and applications in other countries.”
