The JPO conducted the “JPO/IPR Training Course on Anti-Counterfeiting Measures for Practitioners” from October 25 to November 1, 2023. A total of 23 trainees from 14 countries completed the course, targeting the officials of IP offices, Customs, and other organizations that are mainly in charge of conducting anti-counterfeiting operations and cracking down on counterfeit goods.
In this course, trainees learned about anti-counterfeiting practices and cooperation with related organizations in IP enforcement, and also deepened their understanding of the initiatives and current status of IP enforcement in Japan through a company visit, lectures by Tokyo Customs, and discussions with companies.
For the course, trainee comments included the following: “I gained practical knowledge by observing the sea (or air) cargo situation and the border control measures of IPR-infringing goods by Japanese customs.” “I learned a lot about company’s success stories and the fight against counterfeit products.” “I learned about the importance of intellectual property, and how its protection contributes to the growth and expansion of a company.”
