The JPO/IPR Training Course on Patent Examination in Specific Technical Fields for Latin American Countries was held from February 14 - 21, 2024. A total of nine participants from six countries completed the course, which was designed for patent examiners who are responsible for the technical fields of electricity/electronics, and electrically-propelled/hybrid vehicles.
This course was designed to improve the examination skills of patent examiners. Accordingly, participants deepened their understanding of patent examination practice through search exercises and case studies presented by JPO examiners. During the lectures, the participants held very active discussions amongst themselves while also exchanging information on patent examination practice in their respective countries. Trainee comments regarding the course included the following:
“I would like to use the practices I learned in the training so that I can do more detailed analysis in conducting substantive examinations of patent applications (including PCT applications).” ”I will make use of the information, knowledge, skills, and experiences gained from the training in technical meetings and trainings for examiners in our home country.”
