A DNA fragment whether it is used as a probe for analysis or not, has to be clearly defined by technical features as already discussed in 1.1.1.2.1(2)-(4). Moreover, a DNA fragment or probe may be characterized by a precise definition of the length of the fragment/probe or a precise definition of the part of the amino acid sequence of the protein or peptide in question which is encoded by said fragment/probe.
