If a claim concerns a DNA sequence encoding a derivative of protein X, whereby a reference to the amino acid sequence of protein X is given, it is required (a) to specify whether the derivative encoded by said DNA sequence will have the same properties as protein X and (b) to define more precisely of which kind and extent the mutations are; e.g. amino acid substitution, deletion, addition or insertion at the N-terminus or C-terminus of protein X, range of nucleotides to be deleted or inserted and in which region of the DNA, extent of amino acid substitution.
Claims referring in a very broad way to unspecified derivatives may be regarded as lacking in clarity if the scope of the claims is not clearly defined.
