Insofar as a protein rarely has only one function, the claim may not be definite because the particular function of protein X in the claim "a protein which has the function of protein X and which comprises a derivative...in Fig.1" is not clearly set forth. If the claim is indefinite, it may become definite by a more precise definition of the function. The terms "substitution, deletion, addition, or insertion" can be extremely broad; however, their meaning would be understood by one of skill in these arts.
