The Third TM5 Seminar on Bad-Faith Trademark Filings

The JPO held the “Third TM5 Seminar on Bad-Faith Trademark Filings” at the Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall in Tokyo on March 1, 2016. The Seminar was held as part of the “Continuation/Expansion of Bad Faith Project” led by the JPO, which is a project implemented under the framework of the TM5 Offices in Japan, the US, Europe, China, and Korea. The First Seminar on Bad-Faith Trademark Filings was held in Tokyo in October 2013 and the Second Seminar was held in Hong Kong in May 2014.

At the Seminar, Dr. Soichiro Kozuka, Professor of Law at the Gakushuin University delivered a keynote speech and participants from the TM5 Offices introduced the latest case examples of bad-faith filings in their countries (region). The Seminar was attended by approximately 300 users including persons in charge of IP matters in companies, patent attorneys, lawyers, etc.

As the lead Office of the Bad-Faith Project, the JPO will create a “Collection of Case Examples of Bad-Faith Filings” in each TM5 Office. We are planning to publish the Collection on the JPO Website and the TM5 Website (http://tmfive.org/), in order to share information with the users.
