Follow-up Seminar was held at the IPD Myanmar on January 29

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has been providing training　courses to IP Offices in developing countries as part of Cooperation in Human Resource Development activities since 1996. In addition to this, “ Follow-up Seminars" are held jointly with the JPO and the IP Offices of the countries where trainees reside, to promote sustainable training results, follow-ups, and partnerships among trainees who have participated in JPO/IPR training course. Our goal is to facilitate the dissemination and enlightenment of IPR systems within each country.

On January 29, 2021, a Follow-up Seminar titled "The Role of Intellectual Property System for Economic Development" was held online co-hosted by the JPO and the Department of Intellectual Property, the Ministry of Commerce, Government of Myanmar (IPD Myanmar).

The seminar was attended by approximately 280 participants, including officials from the IPD Myanmar and IP professionals from Myanmar's private sector, law firms, and universities.

Officials of the JPO and IP experts from Japan, and officials of IPD Myanmar served as lecturers, and gave presentations on the importance of the IP system for economic development in line with Japan's experience and the current situation in Myanmar.

In October 2020, IPD Myanmar started the process of preferentially accepting trademark applications filed based on marks registered under the existing Registration Act or unregistered marks actually being used in Myanmar.

In anticipation of the acceptance of new trademark applications, design and patent applications, which are scheduled to begin in order, IPD Myanmar is currently working vigorously to arrange the system and its operation.

The JPO aims to support the corporate activities in terms of IP and contribute to the continuous and sustainable development of IP environment in Myanmar.
