JPO-EPO Examiner Exchange Program Held

From March 1 to 5, 2021, Examiner Exchange Program was held between the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) in three technical fields (Eyes Diagnosis, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Video Distribution).

Five patent examiners from the JPO and four from the EPO participated in the program.

For more than 20 years, the JPO and the EPO have held the program by dispatching patent examiners to each other's offices, but this time the program was held online for the first time.

The participants deepened mutual understanding of examination practices between the two offices through the exchange of information on search methods, search system and the operation of examination standards in each technical field.

The JPO will continue to cooperate on patent examination with the patent offices of other countries. JPO Status Report 2020 (PDF:2,380KB)
