JPO-MyIPO Patent Examination Training Program Held

The Global Patent Academy (GPA) of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided the “JPO –MyIPO Patent Examination Training Program on Biotechnology and Manipulator” to the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) online from July 5 to 16, 2021.

Three GPA Instructors with extensive practical experience in patent examination served as lecturers, and 26 patent examiners of the MyIPO participated in the training.

Participants deepened their understanding of patent examination practices on both technical fields through the live streaming lectures and discussions online, along with tasks given outside of the class hours.

Mr. Kamal Kormin, Assistant Director General (Technical, Science & Technology) of MyIPO, said “We are in the midst of upgrade our patent examination quality towards the patent quality management. This training was tremendously beneficial to the participants. We hope that this training program will continue in the future with the possibility to explore different technology fields.”

The JPO continues to provide trainings on the patent examination practices through its GPA to examiners in Malaysia and other emerging countries. Through such efforts, the JPO supports the development and strengthening of examination systems in each country.
