JPO provided patent examination training for IP Viet Nam in specific fields

The Global Patent Academy(GPA) of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), provided online training to patent examiners of the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP Viet Nam) in the fields of telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, as requested by IP Viet Nam, for six days in total on July 11, 12, 14, 15, 20, and 21, 2022,

Three GPA instructors from the JPO, who are examiners with extensive experience in examination practice in these technical fields, served as lecturers, and 23 patent examiners from IP Viet Nam participated in the training as students.

In addition to live online lectures and discussions, the students were given assignments outside of the lectures to deepen their understanding of patent examination practice, including prior art searches and the JPO's Multi-Factor Reasoning (MFR^(※1)) criteria for inventive step.

The JPO, in cooperation with JICA, will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination practice to examiners in Vietnam and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japanese companies is expected, thereby supporting the development and strengthening of examination systems in those countries.
