The Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided new examiners from the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand with the training program for patent examination practices for 8 days, in total, November 2 to 4 and 7 to 11. Also, in parallel, from November 8 to 11, the JPO conducted the training program for patent examination practices on the food field.
From the JPO, four International Training Instructors of The Global Patent Academy (GPA) with extensive practical experience in patent examination served as instructors, and 31 patent examiners of the DIP participated in the training. The instructors were dispatched to the face-to-face training site for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 in 2020.
Participants deepened their understanding of patent examination practices such as prior art searches and JPO's Multi-Factor Reasoning (MFR) criteria*1 for an inventive step through discussions on tasks presented by the instructors, in addition to classroom lectures and various group discussions.
The JPO will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination practice to examiners in Thailand and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japan’s companies is expected, thereby supporting the development and strengthening of examination systems in those countries.
